Crafting a Common Understanding with Clients: Needs Assessment in Career Services

    Presenter: Julia Panke Makela

    Keynote Description:

What drives our clients’ career choices?

What motivates our clients to engage in career services?

Where are our clients getting “stuck” in the process, and how well do they recognize this?

How well do we, as career professionals, help our clients overcome barriers and achieve successes?

You are invited to engage these questions – and more – as we explore the way our clients experience both their career journeys and our career development programs and services. Discover a framework for tackling client needs assessment in a meaningful and manageable way. Learn strategies for inviting a variety of stakeholder perspectives and benefiting from a diverse range of assessment approaches. Take this experience back to your own office to create a common understanding of the career development process with your clients, appreciating each other’s goals and motivations. Together with your clients, identify challenges – the gaps between where career services are now and where you want them to be. Then, prioritize actions to bridge those gaps.
